The Arts Underground "Happy Birthday, General Smedley Butler" (July 30, 2016)

General Smedley Darlington Butler was born on July 30, 1881. He was with the Marines for thirty-four years. He wrote "War Is a Racket," which is featured in a piano piece by Kyle Gann on today's show. Other offerings for today include "The Sadness of Lions" by Out Loud Poet Dave Trueb, Barber's Adagio, and a dramatic reading by Patrick Cunningham of the famous speech from Charlie Chaplin's film, The Great Dictator. We'll also hear The Decline by NOFX and a work called Peace Process by John McDonald. Thanks to Bobby Milk and Kimberly Casey of Out Loud On Air for helping to put this show together. The People United Will Never Be Defeated! is a tune Frederic Rzewski set and the music for today's billboard.
