Brass, Reeds, and Percussion (April 8, 2017)

Born in the United States of Australian Parents in 1925, Sir Charles Mackerras arranged music by Sir Arthur Sullivan to create a comic ballet called Pineapple Poll. When he was 2, his parents returned to Australia. At 7, he started learning the violin and wrote a piano concerto by age 12. He attended the all-male St Aloysius School, where he participated in the school's Gilbert and Sullivan productions, playing the female roles of Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, Leila in Iolanthe, and Ko-Ko in The Mikado. Today’s edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion will feature suite of music from Pinaeapple Poll, but the show opens with the “Royal Standard March.”
