Brass, Reeds, and Percussion (February 18, 2017)

The Gadfly is a 1955 Soviet movie that tells the story Italian patriots fighting against the Austrians for the independence of their homeland. It’s the tragic story of a young man with a pure heart transformed into an ruthless revolutionary known as the Gadfly. Dmitri Shastakovich wrote the music for the movie and later transformed it into a suite for orchestra. Today’s edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion will feature the U.S. Marine Band performing a wind-band transcription of the score. But the show opens with Perez Prado’s 1958 hit “Guaglione.”
