On this week's Arts Underground we'll hear music especially for the Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year, which in ancient mythology is the Year of the Green Horse this time around and should be an energizing year for all. We'll hear music by Tan Dun from Symphony 1997 Heaven Earth Mankind, featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Imperial Bells Ensemble of China. We'll also hear performances by Wu Man, Li Jinwen, and the Ying Quartet. Happy Chinese New Year to you! (hour 1)

This week's Arts Underground features music written and played by extraordinary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, and tangos of movie star and composer Carlos Gardel. We'll hear Stephane Grappelli play the piano as well as the violin, and we'll also hear some of the tango works of Astor Piazzolla and Giya Kancheli. This show features some of the old scratchy vintage recordings of Gardel and Reinhardt, with Gardel singing many of his own tango canciones. Aired Nov. 30, 2013.
