WLRH wins honors at ABA 2021 ABBY awards

Monday, March 29, 2021

WLRH was excited to receive two Alabama Broadcasters Association ABBY awards this year!

Reporting by Katy Ganaway and Brett Tannehill exploring the clash between law enforcement and racial justice protesters in downtown Huntsville last summer received recognition in two separate categories- Best in Broadcasting for Large Market Public Affairs for our episode of The Public Radio Hour- "Citizen Journalism" AND for Best Coverage of Civil Justice and Social Change for our continuing coverage "The Hard Part."

This year the ABBY's were awarded virtually via a pre-recorded video that aired on the ABA Facebook page and on YouTube. President of the ABA, Sharon Tinsley (pictured with Brett Tannehill), dropped by WLRH on friday to deliver the award statues.

Alabama Public Televison, WLRH's sister station, also won two ABBYs. One for Monograph in the Best Documentary category and one for their Pandemic Response in the Service Project category.

Our friends, and fellow Public Radio station, WBHM in Birmingham won Radio Station on the Year.

More information on the awards and a complete list of winners can be found on the Alabama Broadcasters Association website.
