This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion features marches by the French composer Adolphe Sellenick, who was the bandmaster of the Band of the Republican Guard from 1874 to 1884. Before serving as bandmaster of the Band of the Republican Guard, he conducted at least two French army bands. Although his father was a military musician, the violin was Sellenick’s first instrument. He also had a rather colorful history, having been a prisoner of war, having spent 3 months in jail for indecent exposure, and having been reprimanded for playing "Le Marseillaise" without being ordered to do so at a monument dedication ceremony. He also wrote several comic operas.
