Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: June 27 and July 1, 2026

In Maine, the last Saturday of June is Robert Brown Hall Day in recognition of the March King of Maine. Born in 1858, Hall played the cornet in local bands as well as in a Boston Band. He eventually became the leader of numerous local bands in Maine as well as the Tenth Regiment Band of Albany, New York. His marches are played so frequently in Great Britain that the British assume he is a British composer. In Britain, his “Tenth Regiment March” is known as “Death or Glory” and is frequently used in band contests. This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion opens with another Hall march popular in Britain: “The New Colonial March.”
