Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: April 25 and 29, 2026

This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion features the music of Josef Myslivecek, a Czech composer who lived from 1737 to 1781. He studied philosophy and became a master miller before he pursued musical studies. Although born in Prague and sometimes called the Divine Bohemian, he spent most of his life in Italy and composed in the Italian style. Myslivecek’s compositions provided models for many of Mozart’s early works. Indeed, Mozart apparently borrowed motifs from various Myslivecek compositions. From 1766 to 1780, he wrote 26 operas and had more operas produced than any other composer during that period. This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion opens with an official Germany military march.
