Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: November 1 and 5, 2025

This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion features original classical wind-band music by Vaclav Vincenc Masek, a Czech music teacher, composer, and music publisher who lived from 1755 to 1831. This music was composed for harpsichord and winds—specifically, two clarinets, two horns, and two bassoons. In addition to being the choir director of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Prague, he also owned a music store that was the center of Prague’s musical life. His wife played the glass harmonica, for which Masek wrote music. He has about 400 compositions to his credit, including operas, ballets, songs, and church music.
