Alabama lawmakers are addressing a range of policy issues this week, from cultural representation to legislative controversy and public health. State Representative Susan DuBose introduced a bill that would designate Miss Alabama as the state’s official ambassador to the Miss America pageant. Meanwhile, House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter and Representative Paul Lee responded to controversy surrounding a leaked Republican caucus meeting and discussed the affordability of health care as the legislature moves into its final 12 working days of the session. Todd Stacy also spoke with Representative Greg Barnes about House Bill 363, which would make intentionally disrupting a worship service a Class C felony. Barnes also discussed proposed legislation aimed at addressing the opioid crisis by increasing accountability for prescribers and encouraging alternatives to opioid medications in an effort to reduce addiction and overdose across the state.
