Arts Underground – Meet Bart Grooms!

Bart Grooms delights WLRH listeners with a one-hour mix of jazz music almost every weekday on Tuxedo Junction. Musicians and vocalists featured on the show hail from different parts of Alabama, as well as outside the southern United States.

Bart joins host Katy Ganaway in this episode, talking about being an inductee in the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, among names like Nat King Cole and Sun Ra. We also learn about the origin of the name of his program- tied to a sophisticated, thriving spot for dance in the Black community, as well as big band leaders Erskine Hawkins and Glen Miller. We also hear about Bart’s experience as a music journalist, and the interesting common threads between his passion for jazz music and his former day job as a family therapist.

Tuxedo Junction can be heard Monday-Thursday on 89.3 FM/HD-1. The show is produced by Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Radio … FM 91.1 – WAJH – Birmingham.

This interview was recorded Monday, January 12, 2026, and first aired Friday, January 16, 2026.
