Soul Karnival (Marsha’s Pick)
Forged somewhere between the valleys and the mountains of North Alabama, Soul Karnival is the brainchild of the collective talents of Cash, Dobby, Sponge, and Brax. Formed in 2015, the quartet’s music is a genre-blending sound that blurs the lines between hip-hop, rock, and soul. After a few years of writing music and gigging, the band released their debut album “The Border Inbetween” in 2018. The record draws heavily on the members’ experiences of growing up in the South with something to say about the status quo and puts to use the knowledge that comes with it. The group returned to working and writing before releasing their intimate sophomore record, “2012” in July of 2021. Soul Karnival continues to record and new music will be released in the not-so-distant future.

Wildflowers of America (Katy’s Pick)
“You might expect a band with such a pretty name to lean on the sugary side, but occasionally there’s enough hint of an edge—a flash of muscle or a sneer to the vocals, a shoulder check on the way back from the bar—that lets you know not to try anything too smart around this gang. (Members are: Perry Shall- lead vocals; Julia Blair on keys and backup vocals; Amos Pitsch on guitar, bass, drums, percussion, and backup vocals; and Colin Wilde on drums.)”
