Theatre Huntsville’s 1776 Brings America’s Founding Debates to the Stage

What did it take to convince thirteen colonies to declare independence from Great Britain? Theatre Huntsville’s production of 1776 brings audiences inside the Continental Congress as delegates debate, argue and ultimately shape the nation’s founding document.

On this episode of Tennessee Valley Mornings, director Leslie Gates and cast member Dana Clarke discuss the musical’s historical roots, its relevance to modern audiences, and Theatre Huntsville’s role in the nationwide America 250 celebration. The production runs June 12–28 at the Von Braun Center Playhouse and features a cast of 27 performers bringing the story of America’s founding to life through music, humor and history.
