Huntsville On Track to Offer Passenger Rail Service

In April 2026, the city of Huntsville approved a study to reestablish rail transit as an option of transport for its residents. This would be the first time since the 1960s the Rocket City would offer rail as a mode of transit to nearby destination cities, which may include Atlanta, Ga. and Nashville, Tenn.

In this conversation, Dennis Madsen, Huntsville Manager of Urban and Long Range Planning, talks with Katy Ganaway about possible rail connections, the old Huntsville Depot as a possible station location, and more.

This interview was recorded June 17, 2026. A shorter version aired during Tennessee Valley Mornings on June 18, 2026.
