Huntsville Serves Up National Spotlight with NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship

Huntsville may be far from the beach, but it’s becoming a hub for high-level beach volleyball. The city will once again host the NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship at John Hunt Park, bringing teams from across the country to compete.

In a conversation with Marsha Arends for Tennessee Valley Mornings, Huntsville Sports Commission Executive Director Mark Russell said the tournament reflects a broader strategy to grow sports tourism and invest in facilities that serve both athletes and the community.

Russell points to recent upgrades at the beach volleyball complex, designed to improve the fan experience and attract even more national events. He says those investments are already paying off, helping fill hotel rooms, support local businesses, and raise Huntsville’s profile as a destination for championship-level competition.

But beyond the economic impact, Russell says there’s a simple goal: get more people out to experience it.

The NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship runs April 30th through May 2nd at John Hunt Park. Admission is free. More information on the tournament may be found here: huntsvillesports.org
